The Butchers’ district
Rue de la Boucherie, paved and lined with half-timbered houses, is one of the most charming in Limoges. For centuries, butchers held their stalls here, and the small Saint-Aurélien chapel, built in their honour, can still be visited. People meet here in the late afternoon, when the terraces fill and the light gilds the façades. The atmosphere is intimate, almost confidential, perfect for a first drink.
Saint-Étienne cathedral and the Temple courtyard
Imposing at the edge of the historic centre, Saint-Étienne cathedral mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles, with a remarkable Renaissance rood screen. Not far away, the discreet Temple courtyard and Place de la Barreyrrette invite you to extend the stroll through the lanes. Arcades, cobbles, a passing cat: hard not to slow your pace and let words settle quietly between the silences.
The Bishop’s gardens and the Vienne banks
Behind the cathedral, the Bishop’s gardens drop in terraces down to the Vienne. Rose beds, pools, great trees: an ideal setting for sitting in the sun and talking at length. The medieval Saint-Étienne bridge then leads across to the banks. On Lyad, members from Limoges share their favourite walks; it is up to you to find someone to go down to the river with.
